Such cooperation in the scientific and in practical terms is extremely effective. The majority of joint projects are realized in practice and in everyday work. The Institute conducted joint researches with scientific institutions in Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Czechoslovakia, cooperates and supports business and scientific links with research centers in Finland, Denmark, Germany, China, Cuba, the USA, France, Japan, Vietnam, Serbia, Switzerland and others.

The total staff of the Institute is more than 350 people. Among the members of the Institute there are the specialists with higher education: doctors, biologists, chemists, physicists and engineers. 39 members of the Institute have D.Sci and 57 PhD.
In order to promote and popularize the hygienic knowledge and the latest achievements of the occupational health and diseases, the Institute publishes the journal “Occupational Health and Industrial Ecology”.
At present the Institute is working on the problems related to the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of occupational and work-related diseases. The Institute is developing the criteria for occupational risks to further improve the procedure for the appointment of pensions due to special working conditions.
The most important element for social protection of workers should be the establishment of social insurance system against industrial accidents in the workplace and occupational diseases, which would have the differentiation of tariff deductions, depending on the level of occupational risks in the company and in the industry. The development of occupational risk grading scale will help to solve this problem.
It is necessary to create the basis for a fundamentally new system of workers protection against occupational hazards in our country — obligatory social insurance of employees engaged in the industry with the high-risk damage of the health.
